Policy on Guest Articles

Occasionally, I will publish guest article on Speaking of Suicide. If you are interested in submitting one, please reach out to me using the form below. Please note: I will reply only to inquiries for writing a piece that meets criteria for a guest article, which are as follows:

  • The article must specifically focus on suicide, suicidal thoughts, attempted suicide, suicide loss, or clinical work related to suicide assessment, intervention or prevention. Possible topics could include how you learned to cope with ongoing suicidal thoughts, how you’ve coped with the suicide of someone you love, community suicide prevention – and more.
  • It’s important that the article not just mention suicide or suicidality peripherally. If you can’t fit one of the words “suicide,” “suicidal,” or “suicidality” in the title, it’s probably not sufficiently focused on suicide. If in doubt, please ask via the form below or email me at speakingofsuicide(at)gmail(dot)com.
  • The post must not contain any marketing, advertising, or promotion (including links) of a product or company that pays you for its services. If you want to submit a guest post as a vehicle for marketing, please look elsewhere. If your post is accepted for publication on my site and it contains links to for-profit endeavors, I may remove those links, as well as any other details used for marketing your product or service, with the possible exception of links to books or articles you’ve written. Sorry, this site doesn’t earn any money, contains no advertising beyond links to relevant books, and I am committed to maintaining its integrity.
  • The post must meet other criteria specified in the Comments Policy, too. This is very important. Please review that policy.
  • It also must not have been published already.

Other things to consider:

  • I offer only a small honorarium of $25-$50, if your piece is accepted. (The amount depends on how many submissions I receive.) Please note, I receive no compensation for this site, and I cover its expenses with my own money.
  • I may choose to edit your article, with your permission and collaboration.
  • You will retain the copyright.
