Some songs portray suicide as a compelling option, even an outright solution. It is doubtful that listening to such songs can cause suicidal thoughts, but it might intensify them.
Consider that old adage: What you focus on, expands. Focus on songs that portray suicide positively, and positive thoughts about suicide can expand.
So, here are 18 songs that implore people to resist suicide. Some might call them anti-suicide songs.
Some of the songs offer comfort or hope. Others simply discourage suicide. None portrays suicide as romantic, harmless, or otherwise desirable.
Warning: These are not necessarily happy, uplifting songs. Some are quite sad. But their message ultimately is to stay alive.

The problem with most of these, from a yogic perspective, is they drive the energy down.
Even though the lyrics of the song may be reaching for hope, the energy of the music is quite dreary and emphasizes the opposite effect.
I wish I could send you to scientific studies or something but in my personal experience these sorts of songs only indulge the feeling, not aid in resisting it.

Guns for Hands, Migraine, and Truce by twenty one pilots. There’s this sad rage they invoke in Guns for Hands and Migraine that has always felt fitting as a person who has experienced suicidal thoughts. Truce used to be comforting although in some ways I now question the lyrics’ ties to the external when I’ve learned there’s internal journeys which must be traveled. It’s still comforting.

“End of the Movie” by Cake. The thing I love about this song is how gently it gets its point across. It doesn’t scream “Don’t do it!! Life is good!!” at you the way a lot of other antisuicide songs do. It acknowledges that you will go through pain and suffering, but you still haven’t reached the end of your movie and you should stick around and see what happens next rather than leave early.

I remember going to see them in concert and they finished with Bulls in the Bronx and the crowd is jumping around and surges towards the stage and everyone was screaming, at the same time “Please, don’t take this out on me, cause you’re the only thing that’s keeping me alive” and I’m crying and singing along.
Bobby Gaylor – Suicide
This is a song with one of the longest lyrics ever. At first, it looks like it favours suicide. But at some point the feeling turns around, and it starts mentioning the things that you’ll miss when you take the ‘exit of life’.
And the song ends ends with: “Hey, you were born – Finish what was started”. Brilliant!

Other people say, “Oh, we should save them”. Yeah, well you know what? Not everybody wants to be saved. Not everybody should be saved. And who are we to force our will upon them? I mean, isn’t that one of the joys about being a human? Freedom of choice?
Now, it’s not all bad.

Really anything from twenty one pilots is great especially the earlier albums No Phun intended, self titled, regional at best, and vessel. I think the best for suicidal people are friend please, truce, guns for hands, and trees. Also streetlight manifesto album Everything goes numb. I also like listening to slightly Stoopid or sublime because it’s all super down to earth and a lot of it is about living with what you’ve got and some songs are just have really good stuff. Also Green Day Dookie it’s not necessarily anti suicide but it helps be, some of the lyrics are just really relatable.

Honestly, if you listen to Twenty One Pilots’ songs (especially older ones) many of them are about suicide and things similar to suicide. I quite like their song ‘Friend, Please’ as it’s very supportive and has helped me a lot. Through the chorus and everything, it’s just so uplifting and nice.

My favorite anti-suicide song is Friend Please by Twenty One Pilots. The chorus goes like “Friend, please remove your hands from over your eyes for me. I know you want to leave, but friend, please don’t take your life away from me.” The whole song is about anti-suicide, but that is the part where it tells it most. The rest of the lyrics are like this.

Not that I don’t appreciate the sentiment, but I really don’t like this song. I imagine it works differently for a band that’s entirely Christian, but absent that, it reads like yet another demand for the handwaving and psuedo-romanticization of nihilism. Not the best plan considering the target audience that’s likely heard that literally almost to death.
The best ones on this list present an idea or sentiment the subject wasn’t aware of while they are malignantly fixated, not telling them “just don’t do it, ’cause” because the same moral tautology is working just as well in their head the opposite way.

but i realized that the things that makes us think about suicide is also the things that makes us weak but also strong most of the time.

and i really wanted to die so many times~ but i just realized that am too young to hate my fuckin’ god damn life !
and i thought so many times that my life is a hell so whats wrong with suicide.
and i kept saying to myself “can somebody give me a reason to live” maybe suicide is the answer!
and i also kept thinking why am i still here !
and i actualy sometimes didnt know how i really felt !!!!
and to be honest .. sometimes it scares me what can i do myself.
and i kept saying to everyone to be strong knowing am the weakest person on earth !.
i was unhappy but i smile anyway until i convinced myself that am happy ….. and you know what !
hell yeah i became happy 😀 .

Coming Down by Five Finger Death Punch
Fucking yes! Through out all of my suicidal thoughts and tendencies, coming down has always been the song I’d listen to in order to ease away from all the pain. 5fdp is my favorite band. It’s one of the few bands that have lyrics I can relate to.

It is very touching. “Why?” is the tormenting question that people face, again and again and again, after the loss of a loved one to suicide. With no other type of death is that question so forceful, loud, and unabating. I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Your love for her shines through your words.

I know quite a few songs dealing with suicide and bullying, actually.
1) Originally called “Jisatsubushi”, you are most likely to find this song mistranslated under the name “Suicide Song”. In fact, the title is a pun on ‘Jisatsu’ meaning suicide and ‘tsubushi’ meaning busting. “Suicide Busting”, an appropriate title considering the theme of life being “fickle” and “always finding a reason to keep living”.
2) This has not been mistranslated, as the original was “Abusuturakuto Nansensu”, the kanji spelling of the English words “Abstract Nonsense”. While many lines in the song are random and seem to not belong, in the end the song is about “not having the courage to die”, despite being abused and bullied by your peers.
3) “Epilogue”. Not much needs to be said about this one, it’s ultimately about starting a new life.
4) “The Hideous Me Beyond the Mirror”, one of several Nashimoto-P songs I’ll put on this list. This one is about never being content with oneself, and later just not caring at all. “Do you want to live? Do you want to die? Beyond the mirror, I tilt my head. Are you happy? It doesn’t matter if you’re happy…. Until that day I disappear, I continue to breathe.”
5) “Rolling Girl” is one of Hatsune Miku’s most popular songs. The lyrics are vague, but it’s seemingly about a “roling girl” who wants to “stop her breathing”, but is saved by someone close to her.
6) Another Nashimoto-P favorite is “Shinitai Judai, Koroshitai Nijudai”, which translates to something similar to “Teens want to die, Twenties want to kill”. Despite this title, it seems to be a love song (“you’re vexing enough to make me wanna kill”).
7) “Shinitagari”, or “You Wanna Die?” may seem like it’s telling suicidal people to die because no one will care, but it’s actually about someone who’s friends with someone who fakes depression solely for attention and is fed up with their crap, saying they could die because no one would miss an attention hog. The end seems to have a change of heart, the last line “Quit your complaining and live with all your might!”
8) “There’s Supposed to be a Cheat Code for Happiness”. A song comparing video games to the stressful life of teenagers. Good luck!
