Introducing Myself

Stacey Freedenthal, PhD, LCSW

Stacey Freedenthal, PhD, LCSW

My name is Stacey Freedenthal, and I am a Denver psychotherapist, consultant, and university professor. Now in private practice, I have extensive clinical experience in crisis and suicide prevention settings. My book, Helping the Suicidal Person: Tips and Techniques for Professionals, is scheduled to be published in September by Routledge.

As an associate professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, I focus my research and scholarship on suicide-related topics. I also conduct training workshops in the Denver area, give presentations, and teach graduate courses on suicide prevention, crisis intervention, mental health assessment, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

I earned a Ph.D in social work from Washington University, and a master’s in social work from the University of Texas at Austin. Before I became a clinical social worker, I worked as a journalist.
